Hogtoberfest 5 - Mindless Longboards

Hogtoberfest 5 lived up to the hype being the biggest hoghill event so far! With riders from London to Wales, Beginners to Shredders the scene turned up in full force.

Saturdays sign up opened midday-ish (skater time) with special shiny event wristbands and free stickers- what’s not to love already.  All the shop tents were set up along the sides of the hill with a mouth-watering array of gear. Once the hill opened most people started to chuck on the big wheels and go for a few pack runs down the hill. I was riding my quiver killer the Makali SK and Mindless talismans set up the way I like em , with just a wheel change for freeride and some big wheels for downhill the set up was prime for hog hill.

*Dan's Makali SK Above*

Pretty soon it was time for the Slide Jam on the freeride hill. There was a pretty big crowd all sitting on the hill ready to compete. With the music pumping it was the hard wheeled tech sliders who kicked it off first. Using the kickers and blasting sweet 360s and dank blunts, it was going to be a tough one to judge, everyone brought something different to the party. From knee slides to laybacks it was a spectacle to watch.

Up after the hard wheels was the soft wheel slide jam, which had a lot more people participating in it. The freeriding every Hog event just keeps getting better, with people going faster, bigger and ultimately better. Whether you liked steezy sit downs or a long toeside the freeride jam had you covered.

While the freeride jam was happening the slalom skateboarders battled it out on the hybrid course, making use of start ramps and a tight rapid course. It’s always great to watch them in action in 1v1 races where the racing is so close it comes down to less than a second.

After the slide jam was over there was still time to cram in some quick runs on the hill and make use of the great weather before day 1 came to end. Everyone packed up, crammed in to sticker bombed cars with loud music and convoyed out to the campsite. With tents pitched and the Sainsburys food run done it was time to relax!

Campfires, music and skateboards what more could you need?

After a cold night and a damp dew morning we all packed up eager to get warm skateboarding. It was time to practise those tucks and go draft some packs! With a lot of close skateboard riding accomplished the chicane was closed off while the slalomers hit the big hill on the GS course giving us plenty of much needed lurk time. Before you knew it, it was time to line up because it was all downhill from here.

MC Higgins and Mr Tharp were sending down the race heats in a quick time. With some of the UKs best racing it was a fun experience! Blasting through the chicane as photographers and medics blur past with less than an arms distance between riders it was pretty close at times. After the scores had been handed in it was all over and it was time for the prize giving.

The winners took their place on the podiums and the all the swag was all shared out which sadly meant hog was coming to a close. With the cars loaded up all that’s left was to ride on home and grab some much needed shut eye.

Many thanks to the Great Timmy Peters , UKSSA and everyone who makes it happen. Catch you guys next time on the hill!

Hogtoberfest 2015

Monday, October 5th, 2015
We are super excited about this year's Hogtoberfest, and being the 5th annual event, it's set to be better than ever!

So want to see what's in store? Here's the schedule:

- Dual Hybrid Slalom

- Slide Jam
- Freeride

- DJ and maybe live music at the campsite

- Giant Slalom

- Mega Dance Jam

- Freeride

- Race

For more information, head over to the official Hogtoberfest blog.

Here are some highlights from last year's event, including some appearances from Mindless rider, James Allen:

Mindless Longboards Talisman Trucks
Researched and developed to be unique in design and performance.

Light weight gravity cast construction and heat treated for strength.

Raw & Sandblasted finishes are all hardwearing and wont chip or flake after a few hard impacts or grinds.

177mm width and 50° baseplate
Faced hangers to reduce the chance of bearing scrub.

Mellow bushing seat, providing the perfect amount of resistance whilst retaining great bushing rebound.

Fixed kingpins make changing bushings a painless and quick process.

One of few cast trucks to use Skull ball pivot, making turning seamless.

6 hole base plate allows the Talisman to be used on every deck.

Remove the pivot cup with ease with a purpose placed hole.
Light weight, 800g per pair.

Mindless signature eye shaped king pin hole, a wink to the voodoo origins, but primarily allowing  maximum kingpin clearance giving huge lean capabilities.

Make everywhere your playground, slashing between everyday obstacles and making gaps others simply can't.

Hogtober - James Allen 2014

Tuesday, October 21st, 2014
As the majority of you guys and girls know, Hogtober fest has just been and gone!

Our rider James Allen was there and gave us his account of what took place over the weekend!

"My weekend at Hogtober was excellent, as always!

The Saturday started with an early rise and wet looking skies, but this was expected due to weather reports showing storms, and it wouldn't be a hog hill event without one wet day anyway. So we packed the car, full to the brim with longboards, helmets and waterproofs, and hit the road!

Much to our surprise, after a 3 hour drive and 2 coffee stops, we arrived at the Redbridge Cycling Center to find a pretty much dry hill, and lots of friendly faces to greet us.

After doing the rounds and greeting all the other skaters it was time to sign up, limber up and skate!
There is always plenty going on whichever hill you head too, there was slalom taking place in the usual spot, a bit of freestyle on the flat top, and freeride/downhill going through the main run.

Knowing that Jorge's slide jam was starting in just over an hour, I took my new short techslide board proto, (thanks guys) and headed over to the GS/slide hill to start skating and having some fun!!

Before I knew it Jorge was back on the mic, announcing the start of the slide jam, with the main rule of play nice and have a good time. I felt privileged to be skating with so many talented people, there were just over 50 skaters, each with their own style, and all so good at what they do. So after 45 minutes of skate time we were dwindled down to just 10 riders, who had to take it in turns to take their last 3 runs and impress the judges. I was fortunate enough to be skating amongst the finalists, and had a blast doing so. After our final runs, the judges got together and discussed between themselves their favourite skaters, not releasing the identities of the winners until the prize giving, the next day.

So the crowds dispersed, and after abit more of a chilled skate, it was time to pack up and head to the campsite.
At the campsite, the evening was filled with all things fun, there was live music from a great band, dancing from those who dared, a campfire, food, fire poi, people were drinking, and best of all, everyone was having fun.
The next morning was another early one, and even though some people may have felt a bit more tender than others, we were all happy to see the sun was shining. Eager to get on the hill and do a skate, everybody packed up and set sail.

You could tell it was race day soon as you looked down and saw everyone had equipped their big, fast, grippy wheels ready to roll. I had decided to give racing a miss this time around, and concentrated on getting as many fun runs in as i could, before the main hill was closed off for racing. I had a few good pack runs with pals, working on lines, tucking, getting through the chicane as fast as I could and generally having fun and improving myself ready for next time, which I have told myself I will race haha.

Once again, throughout the day there was plenty going on wherever I looked, giant slalom looking fast, luge looking scary, mini moto looking dangerous, and the racing which was exciting and so rad to see everybody giving their all and having a good time.

After everything was done and finished, there was only one thing left to do, the prize giving. Everyone was cheering on all those that had placed and won something, including myself, which was a surprise, i managed to place 3rd in the slide jam, despite all the other excellent skaters, so thank you judges and all for that. Everyone had pictures taken, prizes and special hogtober tankards in hand, and even a few scrambles which sent everyone wild.

So player to player, it was another great weekend for everyone.

Special thanks to Timmy for putting it on, everyone else who helped, all the sponsors and especially Mindless Longboards for helping me personally have the best time ever!
Be excellent to each other!"

A rad weekend was had by all, thank you to the photographers!

And a special thanks to James for the time and effort writing this review.

Till next year!

Pearse's European Journey so far..

Pearce D'Arcy
Pearse is off competing around Europe.

This is a brief collection of photos and descriptions of his adventure so far.

"We outta here! First stop Wales to see homeboy Sion and skate the awesome hills of Wales for a day!! STOOOKKKKKEEEEDDDD!! "

"Halfway to Almab, 5 hours deep. Long drive worth it though to skate this epic hill!"

"Tire has burst on Autobahn, 295km away from Almabtreib. Nightmare of a situation, need help."

"Arrived in Prague ahead of going to Kozakov for the second world cup of the trip. Almabtrieb was awesome, didn't do to we'll unfortunately due to shitty legs. 7.30 and it's still 35˚c!! #justchilltour"

"Shooting round the first left at Almabtrieb, one of my favorite hills I've ever skated! — with Surf-Rodz."

"Eurotour has been awesome so far! Kozakov is over and we're at KnK in Slovenia now Unfortunately due to a lot of road rash, thunder and lightning and a lot of rain I have only gotten to skate one day of the past two. Todays weather is terrible but it looks like it might get better by tomorrow and then we'll be back at it. Here's a shot from Samy Cantieni from Day 1 here at KnK "

"KnK is over! Spent the last three days shedding this awesome hill in the scorching heat. Now heading on a 4 day journey to Peyragudes across Italy and along the Mediterranean, cant wait!! Pic from Sickboards Longboards"

Looks like awesome hills, weather and people.

Videos and more photos of Pearse's time away to come soon.

Saughton Skate Jam
Mindless Longboards is pleased to be sponsoring the Saughton Skate Jam, in association with Boardwise. This is going to be a great event for skateboarders and longboarders! For more information, check out the events page on Facebook.  Read More...
The Mindless Talisman, our premium longboard truck, from a distance looks like any other truck but, if you take a closer look, you will see that it's very different from the rest!

Firstly, this truck was fully designed in-house. Many hours, and days, and weeks and months were spent getting it designed, tested, redesigned and retested, until this beautiful model was born!

Up close you can see that it looks different already. The Mindless branding is embossed into the metalwork, along with the wings shape and Talisman script.

It's not just the cosmetics that make it different though. The Talisman trucks have a great spec that separates them from standard trucks.

We will use our standard truck, that can be found on the classic boards, as an example here. Those trucks are great performers and have been very reliable for us. We rate them highly, which is why we use them so much in our longboard range but of course the Talisman is our premium model, however, and has a lot more of a custom spec underneath all that beauty.

Better quality Aluminium and casting techniques, have allowed us to make it lighter yet stronger and, as well as the improved grade of aluminium, the metal is completely heat treated to T6 for increased strength.

PU Pivot cups reduce truck slop
and our custom skull ball pivot and eye shape kingpin hole allow the truck unrestricted turning

The double barrel cushions give better rebound and turning control while the long kingpin allows the truck to take other sizes of bushings.

The Talisman has a fixed kingpin which makes maintenance and adjustments a lot easier, and the flat top washer allows the bushing to flex and move more (helps rebound/control/feel).

So that's a bit more information to help you see why the Talisman trucks are so special to us, and what makes them stand out from the rest.

We believe that these are some of the best trucks out there, but don't just take out word for it, see what other people have said about them. There are quite a few reviews online, including this one from Le Boulon: http://www.le-boulon.com/mindless-talisman-trucks-review/

Mindless Talisman Trucks are available in Polished, Matt Black and Sandblasted finishes, and are available from all Mindless Voodoo stockists. Just search online.

Don't forget to check out the Classic Talisman range. Some of our best classic longboards fitted with the Talisman Trucks!!

Cayuga Complete Review

Friday, April 11th, 2014
The guys from Longboardskate did an impartial review of our Cayuga:

If you can't read French and finding the translations are a little bit confusing, here are the key points:

‘le concave du plateau me saute immédiatement aux yeux. Il est incroyablement travaillé sans être exagéré’ – The concave deck immediately catches the eye. It is incredibly elaborate without being over the top.

Les extrémités de la planche sont… "aplaties" pour limiter des dégâts lors des chocs frontaux’ – The ends of the deck are flattened to limit damage from frontal impact.

‘La déco… est bien réalisée. Elle est même assortie aux 3 plis de bois teintés du sandwich ... Le total look !’ – The look is well done. It is even accompanied by 3 stained wood plies in a sandwich construction… The complete look!’

‘Les Talismans sont des trucks… bien conçus, légers, avec une finition "brute" mais soignée’ – The Talisman trucks are well-designed, light, and with a ‘raw’ but tidy finish.

‘Le pivot-cup est plutôt souple et ajusté ; loin de l'affreux plastique dur de certains trucks’ – The pivot cup is flexible and adjustable; far from the awful plastic of some trucks.

L'ensemble est très bas, facile à pousser et freiner’ All together, it’s very low, easy to push and brake.

la board roule bien et reste confortable même sur revêtement moyen’ the board rides well and remains comfortable even on a surface that’s not so great.

'Un plateau robuste et bien fini. Confortable, polyvalent et intelligemment pensé… Le plateau de la MINDLESS Cayuga est au moins à hauteur de certains grands noms du marché (Landyachtz, Sector9, Bustin, Comet, etc ) Si si je vous assure ! ;) – A robust and well-finished board. Comfortable, versatile and intelligently designed… this Mindless Cayuga board is well up to the other big names in the market (Landyachtz, Sector9, Bustin, Comet, etc.). Yes, yes, I assure you!

‘(les trucks) ils détrônent dans mon cœur, les trucks Paris dans le classement des trucks les plus joueurs, turny, agréables à rider en ballade, carving, slide.’ In my heart, I think that (the trucks) are better than the Paris trucks, due to their performance, turning and ease of riding when dancing, carving and sliding.

Awesome to see a none biased review be so positive!

If you haven't already, try out our Cayuga! You won't be disappointed!

Skate For A Cure

Monday, March 10th, 2014
A little while ago, we were approached by an enthusiastic longboarder and his father looking for some sponsorship and support with a charity event they were setting up, called Skate For A Cure, in memory of someone very close to them and to raise awareness for the Brain Trust.

Reading about the Brain Trust and the Lucas Garrity Foundation really touched us so we wanted to help out and give our support. We have been in close contact with them and have been doing what we can to support this great cause.

We caught up with the main organiser, Josh Bodgers, to get more of an insight:

Tell us about yourself and the team who will be skating with you:

Well, I have been longboarding for the past year and a half; my first board was a Mindless pintail, which I loved! Since then I’ve had a large array of boards and I have mastered a range of longboarding disciplines. I am constantly working on new techinques and widening my range of skills. I will be skating with a team of 8 dedicated riders who are all very close friends of mine who have also been touched by Lucas’ story.

This is a very special cause that you are raising money and awareness for.

Has it been difficult speaking about it, or does it help to be doing something so positive?

Its been quite difficult and upsetting talking about Lucas and the cause because its such a sad story but doing this event will make me proud to say I’ve helped as much as I can. Doing something I am so passionate about helps me express my feelings about Lucas better.

When and where will the event be held?

The event will be taking place at Teggs Nose (Goyt Valley) in Macclesfield, Cheshire. It will be held on Sunday the 23rd of March.

How far will you be longboarding?

We will be longboarding a total distance of 45 miles all in one go.

How have you been preparing for the event?

Me and my friends who are taking part have been making distance commutes of around 40km (there and back) between Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, and Altrincham as well as learning tricks and skills.

After this event, do you plan on organising or taking part in any more?

After doing our skate I definitely intend to do a larger event which will hopefully include a longer skate and some very ambitious skate related events. I will also want to try and get more kids, and teens into longboarding by them seeing me and my team skate. After this I would love to teach longboarding at all stages and all disciplines and ages of kids.

Huge thanks to Josh for speaking to us and the best of luck to you all from the whole team here at Mindless!

To keep up with all the latest on the team's progress and to show your support, please like their Facebook page Skate For A Cure. They also have a just giving page set up for this event, http://www.justgiving.com/skate4a-cure

Here's a little video put together by Josh and his friend to show them setting off to test out some of their boards and find a location to skate.

Mindless Supports Longboarding For Peace UK

Monday, November 18th, 2013

Here at Mindless, we are stoked to say that we are supporting ‘Longboarding For Peace’!

Initially set up by the man behind Concrete Wave magazine, Michael Brooke, Longboarding for Peace, has moved around the world to unite communities and has now hit the UK in the hope to get our kids riding together too.

Chris Pearson recently got in touch with Mindless to tell us all about his plans for the UK branch, which he is running, and we said that we would be happy to support the initiative.

Anything that gets kids out there on longboards is good to us!

L4P UK will launch on December 7th and 8that Mount Hawke Skatepark, which is a charity fun centre.

The team and all the kids involved will be wearing their helmets, covered in logos of all the supporters as well as riding some fantastic boards and wheels. Be sure to look out for the Mindless products.

After the launch event, the organisers will be attending charity events and schools in a bid to introduce longboarding for fitness, fun, friendship and self worth.

Longboarding for Peace is going to be covered every quarter in Concrete Wave magazine, so be sure to check it out for all the latest updates and photos. There is also talk of it being featured in Thrill and Thane mags, so keep your eyes peeled!

If you want to help support the initiative, head over to Facebook and like their page. There you will be able to find out all the information you need to get involved, or just to give some support.

We will be back with updates as soon as we get them.
